Michael Amante “The People’s Tenor”
Michael Amante returns to the Capitol Theatre on Friday, April 7 at 8 pm. A true crossover talent, Michael Amante is powerful and charismatic, singing pop, rock, Broadway and gospel as well as opera. Affectionately known as “the People’s Tenor,” Amante’s incredible four-octave range and emotionally-charged delivery captivate audiences worldwide. Singing legend Tony Bennett called Michael “…the next Mario Lanza” and he has won praise from singing icons Luciano Pavarotti and Franco Corelli for his natural tenor range. His debut recording of classical songs and arias placed him as the #1 artist in Billboard magazine’s classical charts in 2002. His self-titled PBS television special was nominated for a regional Emmy® Award.
Amante’s stage appearances have included leading roles in West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Grease, Li’l Abner, Puccini’s Madame Butterfly and La Bohéme, Cavaleria Rusticana and the American “Freddie” in the musical Chess. His live concerts with some of the nation’s best symphonies also include music from The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Rigoletto, Italian classics and songs from treasured American composers. He has sung to capacity crowds of 80,000 plus at Giants Stadium and performed to countless dignitaries including former U.S. Presidents, Pope John Paul II as well as a myriad of A-list celebrities. In January 2016, he had the honor of performing for the Crown Prince of Italy, Emanuele Filiberto Di Savoia.
