New York-based poet will offer workshop and public reading during April SunLit Festival
Keep St. Pete Lit announces that New York-based poet Alison Stone has been selected as the 2017 recipient of the LitSpace St. Petersburg Writer’s Residency. The LitSpace Residency, now in its second year, invites a writer to spend two weeks in St. Pete to focus on their writing, while also giving a public reading and offering a workshop for local writers.
“Our applicants this year were amazing,” said KSPL Director Maureen McDole. “We had applications from Sweden, Ireland, Norway, and Zimbabwe, and from some extremely accomplished writers. But Alison Stone still managed to stand out.”
Stone’s deeply personal but formally adventurous poems have appeared in the Paris Review, Poetry International, Ploughshares, and many other prominent outlets. She has been awarded Poetry magazine’s Frederick Bock Prize and the Many Mountains Moving Poetry Award, and has published collections with NYQ Books, Presa Press, and Parallel Press.
The English poet Hugo Williams said of Stone that she “slips a carving knife under the skin of convention, eviscerating appearances, revealing the savage truth.” KSPL’s panel of five judges were unanimous in their selection of Stone as this year’s standout candidate.
Stone will be in residence from April 9th until April 24th, working on a new cycle of poems inspired by Greek and Roman mythology. She will also be offering a reading in conjunction with the SunLit festival on Wednesday, April 19th, and a workshop for local writers on Saturday, April 22nd.
