ArtCenter Manatee Brings Premier Visual Arts

ArtCenter Manatee opens their 2018-2019 

ArtCenter Manatee opens its new season with an exciting roster of exhibits, events, classes and new handcrafted gifts in the Artists’ Market gift shop.  Keeping with their tradition of offering the finest in exhibits, they have opened the season with the annual Florida Watercolor Society (FWS) juried exhibit. This premier exhibit of paintings by Florida watercolorists will feature 100 pieces selected from a field of 600 entries by award-winning artist and juror, Thomas Schaller. The Exhibit will be on display September 7 through October 26. The opening reception will be Friday, September 28, from 5:30 to 7:30. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

There are many highlights this season. Following the FWS exhibit will be an exhibit and workshop by the Sumi-e Society of America, October 30 through November 30. Juror, judge and workshop presenter Professor Yifei Gan, is an internationally recognized artist and curator. The opening reception will be Friday, November 2, from 4:00-6:00. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

In January, from the 15th through February 22, we welcome the American Watercolor Society Traveling Exhibit. This show, featuring the paintings by top water colorists from around the world will be shown in only six venues. ArtCenter Manatee will be the only venue in Florida. The opening reception will be Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 5:00-7:00. There will be a nominal charge for the exhibit. The reception is free.

ArtCenter Manatee’s new Fall Winter Classes & Workshops Catalog has just been released in print and online. Offering instruction in painting, watercolor, drawing, glass, pottery/sculpture, jewelry and special interest subjects including yoga and woodworking, all taught by professional artist/instructors. Our schedule includes the very popular Nights Out series (2-hr mini classes) offering everything from glass painting and glass fusing to the more traditional painting, pottery and jewelry.

Rounding out our season will be special events designed to bring art into the community and to raise friends and funds. We’ll begin with the second Chef’s Challenge on October 6 from 6:00-10:00. Winning 2017 chefs from enRich and Sugar Cubed will be joined by other local chef’s. Along with wonderful food, there will be top shelf spirits and wines, live art, live music and a lot of fun.

In Feb, we will again host the Fine Arts Festival of Manatee County in downtown Bradenton at Riverwalk. This fine arts festival brings talented multimedia artists together for two days in a location that promotes the rich cultural offerings this area has in abundance.

The Artists’ Market boutique gift shop continues to sell the unique handcrafted work of our local and regional artists, offering the finest gifts Manatee County has to offer at very reasonable prices. When you shop the Artists’ Market, you support not only the ArtCenter, but an artist and the community. Our online market debuted this year,, offering unique hand-crafted items by local artists, allowing you to shop fine gifts from the comfort of home.
