This year’s Labor Day Bash will be getting it on with The Black Honkeys Band, one of the hottest bands in central Florida. They says their music has “Nuthin’ but da Funk going on. Come get that good thing we got!”

The Black Honkeys, formed in 2001 by Tampa Bay music scene veterans Bro Phil Esposito, Joe Joe , Sanders, Wil “The Thrill” Harris and a series of drummers, with the intention of writing and playing music that was influenced by the Motown R&B sound of the 60’s and 70’s. Our influences were everything from Sly and the Family Stone, Temptations, Rick James, Rolling Stones, J. Geils, etc. Getting their footing in the Tampa Bay scene, the Black Honkeys got their start playing juke joints, dive bars, and any other place that would have them. The band released the first CD, “Thank You Kindly.”

When listening to the band, you can also hear the influences of such contemporary artists as Lenny Kravitz, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Black Crows. The Black Honkeys recently released their second album, “Live at the State Theatre,” and currently is touring the eastern United States.
