Intimate Jazz Fires Creativity with Darius and Colionne
Jazz has the power to stir imaginations and fire creativity. For a small group working to bring music education to local kids who may not otherwise experience it, inspiration is fluid. Local Artist Visits Home.
“Eric Darius is a wonderful example for the youth in these musical programs, of exactly what can happen when you combine what is learned in the program with their developed skills. He is a local example of someone who achieved national success in the music industry.”
Eric Darius, who grew up in Tampa, is a Billboard number one Jazz musician whose saxophone creates a powerful smooth blend of jazz, which he describes as “fused music ― many genres spun into a colorful, harmonious fabric that comforts, soothes, inspires, energizes, and moves you.”
“Pinellas County is becoming a central hub for arts in Florida,” he adds. “We have the Dali, the Mahaffey Theatre, Chihuly and many fine art centers, and more. They’re all linked to create this wonderful tapestry of artistic venues that we have at our disposal. Darius is successful partly thanks to where he grew up.”
Nick Colionne’s music is a unique mixture of jazz, funk, R&B, blues and soul. He is known for his rich baritone vocals and dynamic live performances,” Judge says. Nick was honored with the prestigious 2007 International Instrumental Artist of the Year Award at the Wave Jazz Awards and BET Jazz calls him one of the most exceptional performers to come along in a long time. His upcoming CD FEEL THE HEAT marks his debut on the prestigious Trippin n Rhythm label. Colionne is committed to mentoring young people and has received a Humanitarian of the Year award for his efforts to combat Breast Cancer.
