Alternative materials, processes and ideas in jewelry, Offbeat Bijou features contemporary, forward-thinking jewelry in a variety of materials and styles created using nontraditional methods, materials or concepts (necklaces, brooches, rings, bracelets, earrings, etc.).
In the current age where more materials and methods are available and are interchangeable between media, these artists have repurposed and reconfigured those established techniques. Meet the artists and curators at the opening reception.
Exhibit runs January 25 through March 2, 2019 with a jewelry artist demonstration taking place on February 13 at 1pm.
The curators of the exhibit are:
• Kelsey Nagy – Assistant Curator of Exhibitions at the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, Florida. A former artist in residence at the Morean Center for Clay, she is a practicing artist in addition to her curatorial work.
• Melissa Yungbluth – Gallery Director for Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. She is the former Assistant Curator of Exhibitions for the Morean Arts Center. Melissa is a freelance curator, art educator and nationally exhibiting artist.
