From a small start in 1904, to its explosive events today, the Florida State Fairgrounds believes that nothing brings a community together like a good time. The first Fair in 1904 was held in downtown Tampa at Henry B. Plant’s Tampa Bay Hotel. In 1915, the State Fair combined with Tampa’s Gasparilla Carnival to become the biggest, best, most deep-fried event of the year – now known as the Florida State Fair. Community members gathered from every corner of the state to eat, compete and celebrate everything Florida.
As the event grew in popularity, the need for a governing body and a permanent home arose. In 1975, the Florida State Legislature created the Florida State Fair Authority. Now an official organization, the event packed up and moved to its new home – the Florida State Fairgrounds, just off Interstate 4. Today, the Florida State Fairgrounds is a year-round hub for community-oriented fun. During this year’s State Fair, you can expect to see a wide variety of live entertainment, food and animal competitions and lots of fun.
Through the year, the Fairgrounds attracts over 1.5 million visitors for a wide variety of events, but none is more fun than the Florida State Fair. While some things have changed, the State Fair’s goals have not. Come on out to celebrate Florida through amazing events, hands-on experiences and exciting competitions.
