George C. McGough Nature Park is often referred to as the “turtle park,” George C. McGough Nature Park in Largo offers visitors a beautiful escape from the hectic pace and bumper-to-bumper traffic with trails and a boardwalk to explore, a butterfly garden and nature center, and a thriving aquatic turtle population.
Currently, twenty-four beautiful birds of prey call the George C. McGough Nature Park their home. These birds have injuries or conditions that prevent their return to the wild, but they live colorful lives with us at the park as ambassadors for their species. Not only do they team up with volunteers to reach out and educate, the birds also provide a therapeutic experience for wounded veterans through the Avian Veteran Alliance. Owl-o-Ween at George C. McGough Nature Park
Come out after hours this weekend for a special event that transforms the George C. McGough Nature Park into a fun Halloween-themed attraction. On Friday evening (October 25th) between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., visitors can attend Owl-o-Ween and stroll the ‘spooky’ nature trail, toast marshmallows with ghosts and goblins and take part in a raffle Tickets are $5 each. The Friends of Largo Nature Parks is an independent group that helps provide the public with an opportunity to explore the natural world. We host a variety of events throughout the year to engage and inspire those curious to learn more – including, but not limited to family campouts, the 5k Turtle Trot, and Nature in the Classroom. The Nature in the Classroom program reaches out to nearly 5,000 kids in Pinellas County Schools each year!
