This month, the HEP Dental and Wellness Clinic bid farewell to one of the best dentists around, Dr. C. William “Doc” Johnston. After retiring from his dental career in 1991, Dr. Johnston began volunteering at HEP (Homeless Empowerment Program). He assisted by answering phones and completing clerical tasks for three years, before founding the HEP Dental Clinic in 1994. “Doc” was inspired to begin providing dental care to homeless residents, realizing that it was a vital part of self-confidence for those interviewing for jobs. Since then, Dr. Johnston has volunteered at the dental clinic once a week, providing oral health care and information to HEP residents and was the recipient of the President’s Service Award. “Doc” has also been instrumental in growing and expanding the clinic, which now has more than 25 volunteer dentists and hygienists, and provided more than $740,000 worth of free dental care to those in need last year alone. Look out for Dr. Johnston’s “Everyday Heroes” news about his participation HEP Dental and Wellness Clinic in a segment, airing on Bay News 9 on March 19th. alanya escort
