Mayor Cretekos to deliver “State of the City Address”

At the Great Neighborhoods Spring Speaker Series
“Great Neighborhoods are made up of connected, informed, and involved citizens,” says Howard Warshauer, President of the Clearwater Neighborhoods Coalition. To support development of these traits, the Clearwater Neighborhoods Coalition (CNC) is producing “The Great Neighborhoods Speaker Series,” targeted talks which inform and involve Clearwater citizens about issues identified by the CNC as vital to the city, its neighborhoods and residents.

The first installment in the series will feature Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos, who will deliver a “State of the City” address. The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, April 3 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 407 S. Saturn Avenue.

The CNC Great Neighborhoods Speaker Series will continue on Monday, May 1 with a speech delivered by Natalie Nagengast, founder of the successful Pierce Street Market. Natalie will offer advice to residents and civic leaders eager to activate and energize their local neighborhood associations.  The final event of the spring series is set for Monday, June 5th. The scheduled topic is “Traffic, Transportation and Complete Streets.” CNC hopes to spark a city-wide discussion on the latest trend in traffic control and integration. The “Complete Streets” concept aims to provide safer access for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and transit riders of all ages and abilities.

According to CNC President Howard Warshauer, the idea for the Great Neighborhoods Speaker Series stems from an April 2016 survey sent by the CNC to local residents, asking them which issues they felt had the biggest positive and/or negative impact on the quality of life in their neighborhoods. “After much discussion and deliberation, we decided the best way to address the issues was to sponsor a speaker series that would inform and involve residents throughout the city,” Warshauer says. “We hope the series will educate and empower our citizens, to help them achieve improvements that will positively affect their neighborhoods and the city.”
