Powerboat P1Powerboat P1 to Honor Mike Salber with Special Tribute

Marine motorsport promoter unveils plans to pay tribute to powerboat racer who passed away after a racing accident in Jacksonville on June 2

As hundreds of tributes continue to pour in since Mike Salber passed away ten days ago, Powerboat P1 has announced that a special tribute will be staged at St. Pete Beach prior to the opening P1 SuperStock powerboat race there on Saturday afternoon (June 16). The P1 fleet will form up on the race course opposite the Postcard Inn with the boats carrying memorial insignia, and a lone bagpiper will play a stirring lament from the beach to herald a minute’s silence. Speaking from its US headquarters in Orlando, Powerboat P1 chief executive Azam Rangoonwala said: “Mike was a remarkable man and very much part of our P1 family both as a racer and member of the safety team. He was larger than life – an accomplished motocross rider, a champion barefoot water skier, a sea plane pilot, a semi-pro football player and coach, a Lieutenant in the Sanford Fire Department here in Central Florida, and a much-loved father of four – and has been described as a ‘real-life super hero’ who impacted so many people in so many different ways.

“Saturday will be a sad day for us all as the P1 fleet returns to the water for the first time after the tragic incident in Jacksonville” added Azam, “and we will honour Mike in a fitting manner as a hugely popular and respected member of the powerboating community.”
