Clearwater’s Spectrum Field is the home for the Phillies’ Spring Training games. The ballpark is located on the west side of U.S. Highway 19, adjacent to Carpenter Field at 601 N. Old Coachman Rd. The field raised the bar for ballpark standards in the Grapefruit League. It is the spring training home to the Philadelphia Phillies and well as the Clearwater Threshers of the Florida State League. The concourse completely wraps around the stadium and is open to the playing field. The berm encompasses most of the outfield, not just one side.
The bullpens are cut into the berm, literally putting fans on top of the relievers. The extremely popular Frenchy’s Tiki Pavilion, a full-service bar, is between the bullpens and left field foul pole. Picnic table seating is available on a terrace, an area for kids is behind it, and there’s even a small upper deck with club level seating. This ballpark has it all, including an attractive Spanish Mediterranean exterior and a fountain plaza landscaped with palm trees.
The Phillies have been training in Clearwater since 1948. Carpenter Field, which was built in 1967, is also used in Spring Training by the Phillies’ major league and Minor League players, along with teams in the Florida State League, Gulf Coast Rookie League and the Florida Instructional League.
