SHINE 2017 Mural Festival Returns

 shine 2017

Fostering opportunities for art to live in public spaces is a top priority of the SHINE 2017 St. Petersburg Mural Festival. Colorful events and neighborhood projects make us SHINE 2017 even brighter, and we are excited to reveal several in the first phase of our October 5 -14, 2017 festival schedule. Community murals, transformed street corners, and the return of the festival’s popular Tour de SHINE bicycle tours are all on the books.

It begins with the SHINE 2017 Open Call Wall, offering one local artist or team the opportunity to showcase their mural designs in vibrant downtown St. Petersburg. Artists and multi-artist teams aged 18 years or older who live and/or work in St. Petersburg are eligible to apply. The finalist will be selected based on visual impact of design, alongside quality and scope of prior work and experience.

Submission deadline for Shine 2017 is August 25, 2017 at midnight. The selected artist or team will be notified by September 1, receiving a $1,000 stipend plus approved supply and equipment expenses. For additional information or to apply, artists may visit https://shineonstpete.com/opencall.

Visiting artists confirmed for SHINE 2017 include Hueman (Los Angeles, CA), Waone (Ukraine), and Alex Yanes (Miami). SHINE will bring an interactive community mural and Carmada art cars to a family-friendly kick-off celebration at Childs Park Recreation Center on Oct 7, while the READ Movement mural project at John Hopkins Middle School brings positive messages directly into an impactful space.
