Highlight SHINE Festival Finale Event
The SHINE Mural Festival Finale Event from 2 p.m. to sunset on Saturday, Oct. 26, will be a daytime outdoor community event culminating of the weeklong festival. The Finale will focus on diversity through art by bring the internationally renowned Inside Out Project to St. Petersburg. The Finale will also highlight environmental conservation with a huge new mural as part of the PangeaSeed Sea Walls project, located adjacent to the Finale. Center for Finale activities will be The Factory St. Pete, 2788 Fairfield Ave. S. (between 6th and 7th Avenues South). The Finale event is open to the public without charge and will take place from 2 p.m. to sunset.
The Inside Out Project will be available one day only and will showcase large-scale, portrait installation showcasing 300 wheat-pasted, poster-sized photos of St. Petersburg residents with special thanks to studio photographer: Todd Bates, community photographer: Rashad Hobson, and City Of St Pete photographer: Maria Flanagan! The installation is deliberately planned to last just one day.
Inside Out also helps to highlight another medium of street art by using wheat pasting to apply the portraits. This impermanent method is one of the oldest forms of guerilla-style” street art and, in conjunction with the black and white portraits, will bring a world-class, must-see installation to the Finale event. Many area residents might find their faces among the images in the installation.
In partnership with PangeaSeed Foundation’s Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans, Portland-based visual artist Blaine Fontana brings his signature imagery to St. Petersburg. He will tackle a massive wall with fellow Portland artist Plastic Birdie. Their mural will creatively highlight St. Petersburg’s successful fisheries management system as part of the first mural project nationwide funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The PangeaSeed Sea Wall is the largest mural of this year’s SHINE On St. Pete.
These two massive installations will anchor a day of art, live music, vendors, food and more, including a special SHINE edition of the Indie Flea artisan market, The Live Mermaid Exhibit & Show, live music and special performances including Trippy Squad, ACT St Pete, the Lakewood High School Marching Spartans and more. In addition, there will be live vehicle painting with CARMADA by Jc Rivera and past art cars on display, live screen printing of artist tees by WovePrint.co, as well as food trucks, beer trucks and water refill stations and more!
SHINE 2019 is presented by the NRP Group with support from founding sponsor City of St. Petersburg Office of Cultural Affairs, Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, Great Bay Distributors, Bank OZK, National Oceanic & Atmosphere Association (NOAA), Was & Hive and the Courtyard Marriott.
