St Pete Clearwater Airport-PIE

St Pete-Clearwater International Airport

Did you know St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport has been in business since 1941? Pinellas Army Airfield was built as a WWII Army Flight Training Base for a combat training unit flying P-40’s and P-51’s during WWII. The original terminal building was dedicated in 1957 and the following year the airport was renamed St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport to capitalize on recognition as a tourism destination.

For the past 62 years, St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport has been Making Air Travel Easy as PIE – Tampa Bay’s most convenient gateway to St. Pete-Clearwater/Tampa Bay and America’s award-winning beaches from destinations throughout the US and Canada.  The Airport offers affordable parking, short walking distances and an easy to navigate terminal.

The Airport has a host of construction projects taking place, including a new and expanded departure area.  PIE recently awarded the Hudson Group the master concessionaire agreement and will be taking over all food & beverage and retail concessions.  Soon we will offer passengers local favorites, Mazzaro’s Italian Market, 3 Daughters Brewing, The District Pub and Dunkin Donuts!

St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) reported a 9% increase in 2018 over 2017, setting a new record with 2,237,440 passengers!  PIE is Allegiant Airlines third largest airport operation, behind Orlando Sanford and Las Vegas.  Allegiant first started serving St. Pete-Clearwater in November 2006, when it launched 12 routes.  Allegiant currently flies non-stop to 54 cities from the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport and recently added new flights to Traverse City, MI and State College, PA.  There are also seasonal flights by Sunwing Airlines to Halifax and Toronto, Canada, along with Sun Country Airlines offering service to the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Gulfport-Biloxi, Mississippi.

The Airport proudly unveiled their new logo and slogan, Tampa Bay The Easy Way, in 2013.  The new logo emphasizes the airport’s three letter identifier “PIE” and their regional identity.  The slogan represents feedback received from airport patrons regarding the airport’s ease and convenience of use.  With a new look, a new logo and a renovated terminal, PIE has also added new flights.
