Get ready again to celebrate at the Tarpon Springs Annual Epiphany Celebration! One of the country’s most celebrated Epiphany celebrations will take place in Tarpon Springs on Monday, Jan, 6. The event honors the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River more than 2,000 years ago. Because of its high population of Greek Americans, Tarpon Springs has been celebrating this special day in a unique way for over 100 years. The event is highlighted by local teenage boys diving into Spring Bayou to retrieve a cross thrown in by an archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church.
Tradition says that the boy who surfaces with the cross will have good luck the following year.

After this ceremony, the people of Tarpon Springs and visitors from around the world join for an Epiphany Glendi celebration. The Glendi is a lively gathering with food, drink and live music. All the day’s events are free. Call 727-937-6109 for more information.
There are many great events in Tarpon Springs like the Opa Greek Festival and a Night in the Islands here. Photos courtesy of Tarpon Springs.
