The Florida Orchestra’s music director Michael Francis (above) will open the Tampa Bay Times Masterworks Series season on the weekend of September 27-28. Musical selections include Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, Grieg’s Piano Concerto, and Beethoven’s Leonore Overture. The Masterworks season will open on Friday, Sept. 27, at the Straz Center in Tampa, followed by the season premiere at the Orchestra’s home base The Mahaffey Theater on Saturday, Sept. 28. Both concerts will begin at 8 p.m. Then, on Sunday, Sept. 29, TFO’s Masterworks will conclude its season opener at Ruth Eckerd Hall at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29.
