Be a Part of Experience Cuba – Featuring the Photography of Clyde Butcher
The St. Petersburg Museum of History invites the Tampa Bay community to take part in the Experience Cuba exhibit by submitting personal photographs of Cuba for the multi-faceted exhibition celebrating the beauty, culture and history of the once forbidden island. Experience Cuba opens June 15 and features: Cuba, The Natural Beauty – The Photography of Clyde Butcher, as well as original artwork of Cuban artists Los Carpinteros and Ibrahim Miranda. Experience Cuba is presented by AARP and the Florida Humanities Council.
Desiring to create a Community element of the exhibition, the Museum of History is seeking photographs from local residents that capture the culture and history of Cuba for inclusion in this breathtaking exhibit. The Culture category highlights the people, places and activities of present-day Cuba. From the 1957 Chevys to unique architecture to crowds waiting to meet the Tampa Bay Rays. The History category features the stories and photographs of old Cuba. Residents are encouraged to submit family photos and share their stories of a life, or time in Cuba.
Experience Cuba will run from June 15 to September 30, 2016. The celebration of Cuban culture and history will also include special events during the summer such as a Cuban food and music festival and a Night at the Tropicana Casino.
