In First Home Game at Dunedin’s New TD Stadium

Toronto Blue Jays Play Atlanta Braves for their first home game on the Toronto Blue Jays schedule will celebrate the opening of the new TD Stadium in Dunedin. After a $102 million renovation and expansion project, the Blue Jays now boast one of the top five spring training homes in all Major League Baseball. The opener will pit Toronto Blue Jays against the Atlanta Braves at 1:07 p.m. at TD Ballpark, 311 Douglas Ave. in Dunedin.

The History of Major League Baseball in Dunedin began in 1977 when the Toronto Blue Jays expansion team flew south for their very first Grapefruit League season. Dunedin has been the site for every Blue Jays Spring Training Season since 1977, making Toronto the only major league franchise to have never changed Spring Training cities. While the ballpark has been known by many names, including TD Ballpark, Dunedin Stadium and Florida Auto Exchange Stadium and Grant Field.

In First Home Game at Dunedin’s New TD Stadium

The Toronto franchise will continue its ties with Dunedin for at least 25 years, according to an agreement between the team and the City of Dunedin. In early 2019, construction began on TD Ballpark that will continue to be home to the Toronto Blue Jays Spring Training and the Dunedin Blue Jays under a new 25-year lease agreement between the Blue Jays, the City of Dunedin, Pinellas County and the state of Florida.

TD Ballpark is ready to open for the 2020 Spring Training season. Some of the additional “player development” facilities planned for the complex are still under construction, including the addition of five practice fields for the Blue Jays and their minor league partners to use.
