St. Pete—Clearwater International Airport
After serving a total of 919,951 passengers by the end of November, St. Pete—Clearwater International Airport (PIE) has eclipsed the million passenger milestone for the 2013 travel year. PIE averages a monthly passenger total of 84,125 people, so officials were confident that the milestone would be surpassed.
The last time PIE served a million passengers was in 2004.
The success and increase in monthly traffic can be attributed to the announcement of new cities served and overall added capacity. In November, six new destinations were added to the list of non-stops with Allegiant Air. In October, Sunwing Airlines resumed service to Toronto, and the airline will add non-stop service to Halifax in 2014.
“We are thrilled with the service we are offering the community and the boost to our tourism economy,” says Airport Director Noah Lagos. “We see many happy travelers that have become frequent fliers with the great rates and non-stop service Allegiant offers to 31 destinations.”
“Our partnership with the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino flying to Gulfport-Biloxi also has a regular following enjoying this great getaway.”
